Jakarta government has formalized a strategic alliance with Jakarta Polda Metro Jaya to optimize the utilization of CCTV surveillance, aimed at fortifying security and public order across the capital.
This initiative will instill a profound sense of security and comfort for Jakartans
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Governor, Pramono Anung, and Jakarta Regional Police Chief, Com. Gen. Asep Edi Suheri, at Balai Agung Great Hall, Jakarta City Hall, Tuesday (5/19).
This collaboration is designed to integrate CCTV management across various sectors, encompassing assets owned by the Jakarta government, Region-Owned Enterprises (BUMD), government agencies, and the police force.
CCTV Integration to Bolster Jakarta Security"Today, the Jakarta government has entered into an agreement with Polda Metro Jaya for the joint regulation and optimization of CCTV utilization," Pramono explained.
He emphasized that strengthening this surveillance ecosystem does not rely solely on public infrastructure but will also actively involve the private sector.
Currently, the government is integrating 7,314 CCTV units from Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD) and BUMD into a centralized dashboard managed by the Communications, Informatics, and Statistics Agency (Diskominfotik).
Meanwhile, Polda Metro Jaya currently oversees 3,362 CCTV units. The Jakarta government will also urge owners of buildings exceeding four stories to comply with Governor’s Regulations, which mandate the installation of CCTV systems to be linked to an integrated command center.
Based on Diskominfotik data, there is a potential for 16,781 CCTV units from private buildings to be onboarded, bringing the total projected integrated network to 24,095 units.
"The dashboard will be accessible to Polda Metro Jaya, Intelligence and Security Intelligence Agency (Baintelkam), and Jakarta government. I am confident this initiative will instill a profound sense of security and comfort for Jakartans," he explained.
This synergy aims to bolster early prevention efforts, map out traffic congestion hotspots, and ensure a rapid response to situations that threaten public safety or require disaster management intervention.
Pramono expressed his aspiration that this integrated surveillance network will transform Jakarta into a safer and more hospitable environment, thereby enhancing the overall quality of life for its residents.
"As a global city and the hub of the national economy, Jakarta’s benchmarks are no longer other cities in Indonesia, but world-class metropolises. Hopefully, it will become increasingly safe, livable, and sustainable," he remarked.
Jakarta Diskominfotik Head, Budi Awaluddin, added that the integration supports real-time urban monitoring and facilitates swift responses to various challenges.
"From our preliminary verification, there are 7,314 public area CCTV points ready for integration. We target to complete this consolidation by the end of 2026," he noted.
He continued this integration is pivotal for maintaining the city's conduciveness.
"Through this synchronization, the Jakarta government expects to enhance urban oversight efficacy, accelerate public service response times, strengthen cross-institutional coordination, and support real-time, data-driven decision-making," he elaborated.
Jakarta Polda Metro Jaya, Com. Gen. Asep Edi Suheri, lauded the Jakarta Government for the long-standing cooperation. He deemed the optimization of CCTV as crucial in navigating the diverse challenges of the capital region.
"Given the multifaceted challenges we face, we require a system that assists us in expediting factual decision-making, one of which is derived from CCTV monitoring," he said.
The integrated CCTV network will serve as a vital tool in preventing, monitoring, and responding to security disturbances, public order issues, and traffic density.
"Hopefully, this initiative yields significant benefits for everyone, particularly for the police force in leveraging technology to preempt crime and provide immediate assistance to people in need," he concluded.
